Story C. Redfield

Story Close Redfield, a long-time resident of Palm Beach, died on August 9, 2013 at age 85, after a brief illness. Mr. Redfield was born in New York City, New York, on January 12, 1928. His parents were Oliver and Elizabeth Redfield of Greenwich, Connecticut. He graduated from Groton School in 1946 and earned a degree in industrial engineering from Yale University in 1950, where he was a member of the 1950 national champion rowing team. After serving in the US Navy Reserve as an executive officer of the mine sweeper USS Brambling, he worked as a securities analyst in Palm Beach and Asheville, NC from 1955-1993. An avid competitor, he won state bicycling championships in Florida and North Carolina and three US Masters national rowing championships in single scull rowing. He is survived by his wife, Jane Oelsner Redfield, and six children: Nicole Fanjul (Alex) of Palm Beach; Marjorie Moore (Bob) of West Palm Beach; Elizabeth Atterbury (Bill) of Palm Beach; Randall Redfield (Emily) of Denver, CO; Katrina Morgan (David) of Asheville, NC and Eva Gourley (Hunter) of Charlotte, NC, along with 12 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Dwight Redfield. A memorial gathering will be held at a future date.
